Creation vs. Evolution?

First off - the bible is not meant to be taken literally but is a guide to faith by interpretation. Let's ume that you won't take my advice on how to read your Bible - Where does it say that God hides the fossils ? If God is a good and loving God why would he deceive his people by planting false evidence ? Is it not possible that a day for God in the book could mean an undefined period of time ? (that would allow for the billions of years it has taken for us to get to this point in the story)
