Is it so wrong to not want to be ociated with a stigmatized disorder?

Even if that disorder was a part of you, is it wrong? People believe stereotypes more often than fact, so when ignorance is ram pent, is it really wrong to not want to be ociated with the disorder. I have aspergers autism, but I don't want people to know that because of the stigma that surrounds it, not many people know that there is a spectrum, and neither do they know that aspergers is on the minimum of the scale, and that the intensity of the issues can vary on individual case; and it does not mean a group as a whole, which most people believe that people with autism exhibit major instances of mental retardation. Don't start about enlightenment, I don't want to hear about it, especially when I've seen and lived with so much ignorance, I'm very doubtful of a populations ability to be enlighten on such subjects; especially when people have such knowledge, they do their very best to make the person's life a misery, and a joke. So in light of this question would you consider shame of something you born with wrong, if it meant the world viewed you as non human, incapable of actual thought or reason, an easy joke, because of images embedded in their minds for years?
